Aus der kleinen Stadt Eugene (immer noch die zweitgrößte Stadt von Oregon) kommen Novelas.
Die Demo ist zwar schon nen halbes Jahr alt, aber geht halt auch vieles unter bei den ganzen neuen Bands. Dank geht hier an Christina von Gouge Away, die diese Band auf Instagram gepostet hatte.
In vier emotionalen Songs schreit sich Sängerin Kris vieles von der Seele.
South Carolina, Goddamn startet mit einem kleinem Intro und geht ziemlich schnell in einen klasse Melodic Hardcore Song über.
Vor 53 Jahren schrieb eine bemerkenswerte Frau namens Nina Simone den Klassiker Mississippi Goddam, in welchem sie über das Bombenattentat auf eine Kirche singt bei der vier Kinder ums Leben kamen.
In Anlehnung an diesen Song schreiben Novelas ein halbes Jahrhundert später einen Song über das Attentat auf eine Kirche in Columbia bei dem 2015 neun Menschen starben.
Ein sehr aufwühlender Song und diese Emotionalität begleitet die komplette EP.
Wenn Kris in das Mikrofon schreit, spürt man die Empathie in den Wörtern.
Die Welle an Melodic Hardcore Bands ist ja deutlich abgeflaut, aber Novelas spielen immer noch wie Pianos Become The Teeth, Touche Amore und andere vor Jahren.
Mir gefällt es, weil sich Novelas durch ihre Lyrics abheben, die eben nicht nur um Trennung und Herzschmerz gehen.
Liegt nach einem halben Jahr in der Best-Of Liste ziemlich weit vorne.

This demo is already half a year old, but sometimes it takes a little bit longer to find a beauty.

In four songs Kris screams all the pain from her soul.
Starting with South Carolina, Goddamn and a little intro, which changes really fast into an incredible melodic Hardcore song.
53 years ago a wonderful women called Nina Simone wrote a classic song named Mississippi, Goddam.
This song is about the bomb assassination in Columbia where four young Afroamerican children were killed.
Referring to Nina Simone Novelis wrote a song about the killing of nine afroamericans in the year 2015.
It’s a disturbing song and you can feel the emotive athmosphere through the whole EP.
There is a lot of personality in the lyrics and the voice of Kris leaves you astounded.
The wave of new melodic Hardcore bands calmed down, but Novelas is here and now like Pianos Become The Teeth or Touche Amore years ago.
I like this a lot, because the lyrics are much more than heartpain or about break-ups.
At the end of the year this EP will be one of my most heard.

Hey friends, it is with heavy hearts that we say it’s been a hella good run and a great 3 years of sharing our music and creating space with you all.
We’ve got a lot going on in our personal lives and trying to find the balance has been overwhelming. At the end of the day, we wouldn’t trade anything in the world for all the memories.
We just wanted to say thanks for all the support and love you all have shown us over the years, the twerk pits, the tears, and for letting us pour our heart and soul into our community. A special shout out to all the survivors, femmes, queers, and trans babes for taking up space at our shows and found solace and validation in our music. Y’all are the real MVP’s!
